If I could go back in time, I would tell myself one important thing. For example, energy transfers only happen when something is in the system. If it were not, it would be considered work. This is easily explained in a bar chart but is still confusing a little. Just practice working with bar charts and writing the system down will help. This method would make everything simpler. With this understanding energy transfer, work, types of energy and energy conservation vs. constant energy.
