This week’s topic was reflection.

We did an experiment to see how or why light bounces off a medium such as water or a mirror and into our eyes. We concluded that light reflects off of any medium because when rays hit a surface/medium they have to bounce in another direction. (Newton’s third law of motion: for every action there is an equal and opposite re-action.) For example, if you throw a basketball, on the floor, it will bounce off and in a different direction. The same principle applies here.

We also learned that angle of incident is equal to the angle of reflection. Using a protractor, we did an experiment to measure these angles. After recording and comparing data, we concluded that when light reflects off a medium, the angles are equal.

This is important to know because reflection is apart of our every day life for example mirrors or when a basketball player checks the ball.
